London Clean & Green 2010
Registration Information
|
|
April 17th is
the day when thousands of Londoners will work
together to help "clean & green"
our city's neighbourhoods and parks and the
Thames River. We will pick up litter, remove
graffiti and plant trees. Numerous designated
meeting sites have been identified where volunteers
can register, receive information and instruction,
and get equipped with garbage bags. Other locations
can be added anywhere in the city by registering
through this
website and students can earn community
service hours as part of their high school commitment.
Please join us! When you do, you can be proud
of being part of a growing trend of April clean
up activities across Ontario, Canada and North

Why
do I have to register?
Registering helps to ensure your local clean
up is a success and that you have the support
of London Clean and Green. Registering helps
to measure our success in terms of number of
volunteers, areas cleaned up and the amount
of garbage collected. We also want to be able
to acknowledge your efforts.
When
you register:
- We make sure you can pick up the appropriate number
of garbage bags for your group. (Bags are available
only while supplies last, so register early.)
- Garbage collection crews will know where to
go to pick up the garbage your group collects.
Our goal is to have all garbage removed by Monday,
April 19.
How
do I register?
Sign-up using our on-line Clean
Up Registration Form.
How
do I join an existing group?
Designated clean up locations are listed above.
You may start from one of these locations by
registering now
online
or on site between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on April 17.
We will provide you with garbage bags, graffiti
remover (where required) and a map of the area
to clean.
How
can I earn community service hours?
Students can earn community service hours as
part of their high school commitment by signing-up
and participating in the London Clean &
Green event. Be sure to bring the
student's volunteer form to the event for
completion.
What
if I want to clean my neighbourhood or local
green space and it is not listed above?
You can do this by adding a new clean up location
when registering via our online
Registration
Form.
- Start your own group. Get your neighbours
involved, notify the local school, put up posters,
etc.,
- Get out on your own and clean up. You are
part of a bigger team and every volunteer makes
a difference.
Participants are responsible for wearing appropriate
and protective clothing (gloves, boots, sunscreen,
etc).
Will
garbage bags and gloves be available?
Garbage bags and gloves will be available while
supplies last. Participants are responsible
for wearing appropriate and protective clothing
(gloves, boots, sunscreen, hats, etc).
Where
do we put waste when we are finished cleaning
up our area?
Garbage bags must be easily accessible to the
collection trucks. Please leave your bags where
instructed by Clean and Green representatives.
Please instruct all volunteers to leave the
garbage at the designated pickup location. Don't
leave garbage in the park or ravine, or on a
footpath.
Safety:
1. Wear appropriate
and protective clothing (boots, gloves, etc.).
2. Wear a hat or sunscreen if necessary.|
3. Pick up litter in your gloved hand and carry
your bag in the other.
4. Do not pick up strange articles that may
be dangerous. Don't pick up anything that looks
sharp (i.e. used needles).
5. Do not take any risks attempting to reach
litter in hard-to-get-to places (up a tree,
down a steep incline, in rapidly flowing water,
on slippery surfaces, etc.).
